• Storing dangerous goods in storage yards in port support areas

    Greetings,

    Asharqia Chamber presents you with its best regards, and informs you that it has received the letter of the Union of Saudi Chambers No. (45504042) dated (1/9/1445 AH), with reference to the Union’s receipt of the letter from the General Authority of Ports No. (1/31/70/21323) and the date (19/8/1445 AH). This includes the Authority’s confirmation that all tenants in the port support areas must adhere to the following:

    1- Do not store dangerous goods (all classifications) in storage yards in the supporting areas of the ports except as permitted in accordance with the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code and related regulations, and after obtaining the approval of the concerned authorities.

    2- With regard to dangerous goods (direct delivery), the tenants must deliver them directly, as stated in the Circular on Procedures for Dealing with Dangerous Goods, page (24).

    3- Dangerous goods must be marked and numbered in accordance with the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code.

    4- Preparing a list of dangerous containers in the storage yards inside/outside the port, which includes the preparation of containers and material safety data (MSDS) on an ongoing basis. The responsibility for collecting the necessary accurate information about dangerous goods falls on the shipping agent, and a copy of it is provided to the relevant port administration.

    In the event of violation of the procedures referred to above, the necessary legal measures will be taken by the Authority​.
